205 The Cornelius Hedges Story

    In 1896 she was elected President of the Montana Women
Suffrage Association and later that year she was selected to attend
the Populist Party National Convention.

    Ella Knowes married Henri Haskell to whom she lost the election
as State Attorney General, she became Assistant Attorney General to
Haskell and represented the State in public land issues. Ella later
divorced Haskell and continued to practice Law in Butte for the next
fourteen years, becoming an expert on mining and corporate law,
she also lectured extensively on Woman’s Rights.
