In 1868, Leroy Southmayd became a member of
Summit Lodge No. 10 in Summit City, MT. He served
as Lodge Treasurer in 1871, 1872, 1873, 1874. In 1875,
he became a member of Montana Lodge No. 2 and a
Past Master.
Leroy spent much of the time before his death
mining near Summit and was working his claim when
he met his demise through an unfortunate mining
accident when a massive rock fell on his head, which
resulted in his death on 29 May 1883.
Virginia City Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar,
conducted his funeral. He was buried at the Virginia
City Cemetery, Virginia City, Madison County,
Montana.

No.10 & Montana No.2) and William Andrews Clark (Virginia
City No.1, Morning Star No.5 & Deer Lodge No.14), W.A. Clark
became the 12th GM 1877-1878.
