Bikes and Kindles for Kids

Kindles for Kids

The aim of this program is to encourage grade school children to learn to enjoy reading, similar to the successful Bikes for Books initiative. The Montana Masonic Foundation (MMF) purchases Kindles for Kids, and outside donors, such as Masonic lodges, receive them at a matching half price (up to the program designated funding limit).

The preliminary design of this program is to approach a local elementary school and have the school library run a reading promotion initiative. Donors, including the Masons, will make Kindles available as an incentive for the reading program. For each book a student reads, they are allowed to put an entry slip in the drawing (many schools have a similar or slightly different program in place for this, and the Lodge representative should work with them).

A drawing is then held at the end of the program date. For many schools, this is arranged to happen at the same time as an end-of-year assembly.

Local educators are reminded that the donor/Lodge and the MMF are providing the Kindles for Kids as is, and schools should have programs in place designed to teach youth responsible use of devices such as this.
