223 The Cornelius Hedges Story

Henry Martin Parchen, born in Prussia, came to the United States in
1848. Departed for Montana from Denver traveled, across the plains by
stage to Salt Lake City, arrived at Virginia City, July 2, 1864. Occupation,
merchant-drug store, also involved with the Helena Gas Company, the
Electric Light and Street Railway Company, and numerous mines,
smelters, ranches, and real estate. Member House of Representatives,
Twelfth Session, 1881, Territorial Legislative Assembly. Treasurer
Society of Montana Pioneers, 1890-1. Commissioner, Lewis and Clarke
County. Parchen became a Master Mason on 8/23/1867 in Helena No.
3, he served as Worshipful Master in 1869 and served as the fifth Grand
Treasurer for the Grand Lodge of Montana from 1871-1909.
Theodore H. Kleinschmidt, born at Petershagen, Province of
Minden, Prussia, came to the United States in 1843. Departed Denver
for Montana, route traveled, across the plains via Bridger Pass,
Laramie Plains, and Soda Springs arrived Virginia City, May 12th,
1864. Occupation, banker. Treasurer Society of Montana Pioneers.
Kleinschmidt became a Master Mason in 1868 in Morning Star No. 5
and served as Worshipful Master in 1870.
Anton E. Miller, departed from Colorado traveled, across the plains;
arrived in Montana in July, 1863. Occupation, miner and hotel keeper.
Nickolas Kessler, born at Befoot, Canton, Echternach, Grand
Duchy Luxemburg, came to the United States in 1854. Departed
from Montgomery, Colorado, traveled, across the plains via Fort
Bridger and Bitter Creek; arrived at Bannack, September 22nd, 1863.
Occupation, brewer. Member House of Representatives, Tenth Session,
1877, Territorial Legislative Assembly. President Society of Montana
Pioneers, 1897-8.
Lewis H. Hershfield, arrived at Virginia City, July 3d, 1864.
Occupation, banker. Member Constitutional Convention, 1889,
representing Fourteenth District, Lewis and Clarke County. In 1882,
with his brother, he organized the Merchants National bank, with a
capital stock of $150,000. In 1880, established a bank at Benton, and in
1883 another at White Sulphur Springs.
Lorenzo Branch Lyman, from New York, departed from Waukesha,
Wisconsin, traveled, via Platte River, Sweetwater River, South Pass,
and Lander Cut Off; arrived at Alder Gulch in September, 1864.
Occupation, farmer.
Henry Klein, from Austria, came to the United States in 1858.
Departed San Francisco traveled, overland; arrived at Helena in 1865.
Occupation, merchant. Klein became as Master Mason in 1868 in
Morning Star Lodge No. 5.
