Paraphernalia of Montana Army Lodge No. 1
To Be Placed in Montana Masonic Museum

From the 1919 Annual Proceedings of the Grand Lodge
     of A.F. & A.M. of Montana. M. W. Brother Hepner moved
that the gavel used by Brother Foot during the meetings
of the Army Lodge be properly marked and laid up
among the archives of the Grand Lodge with the other
paraphernalia returned by the Brother. This motion
     prevailed.

The jewels and furniture of the lodge were the gifts of
the three Helena Lodges, Helena Lodge No. 3, Morning
Star Lodge No. 5, and King Solomon’s Lodge No. 9, the
square and compasses being made for the purpose by a
Helena silversmith from pure Montana silver. All these
jewels and other articles were returned to the Grand
Lodge and are now deposited in its archives among the
other historical relics of Montana Masonry.
The following items are on display in the Montana
Masonic Museum in Helena. Gavels, silver square and
compass, working tools, columns. The records and
minutes of the lodge are in the archives.

The Square and Compass were given by Grand Lodge
and Brother Frank M. Smith. Our Brother Frank M.
Smith generously gave the silver and Grand Lodge had
the instruments made. the silver used was chemically
pure, being the product of the smelter and assay office at
East Helena, of which our brother is manager.

The Working Tools were made by the pupils of the
Mechanical Department of the Helena Public Schools
and were a gift of W. Brother L. W. Dutcher.
